SUMMARY:The Feminist Bookclub - August
DESCRIPTION:House of Books & Friends are delighted to announce that we are hosting the Feminist Book Club. Taking place monthly\, this will be a space for people of all genders to discuss feminist books. In August we will be discussing Taiwan Travelogue by Yang Shuang-zi. It will take place August 19th at 6pm. \nTickets \nBook & Ticket – £14.99 \nTicket only – £3 \nAbout the Book \nWinner of the 2026 International Booker Prize \nWinner of the 2024 National Book Award for Translated Literature \nDisguised as a translation of a rediscovered text by a Japanese writer\, Taiwan Travelogue is a bittersweet story of love between two women\, nested in an artful exploration of language\, history and power. Set in May 1938\, the young novelist Aoyama Chizuko sails from Japan to Taiwan where her interpreter proffers tantalising glimpses of island life and helps her to taste as much of cuisine as her larger-than-life appetite can bear.
