In intertwining Greek culture\, history and poetic influences with the contemporary queer experience\, this collection is perceptive\, lyrical\, and deeply evocative of time and place. From an Athenian childhood to a closeted adolescence in the shadow of the AIDS epidemic\, towards sexual self-discovery\, maturity and freedom – Tsolakis charts the pursuit of unconditional happiness. \nAbout Kostya \nKostya Tsolakis was born and raised in Athens\, Greece\, and now lives in London. He is founding editor of harana poetry\, the online magazine for poets writing in English as a second or parallel language. In 2019 he won the Oxford Brookes International Poetry Competition (ESL category). His poems have been widely published in magazines\, including fourteen poems\, Magma Poetry\, Poetry London\, The Poetry Review and Under the Radar\, and anthologies\, such as 100 Queer Poems (Vintage\, 2022). His debut poetry pamphlet\, Ephebos\, was published by ignitionpress in November 2020. \nAbout E Walker \nE Walker has an MFA in Poetry from MMU\, was shortlisted for Primers Volume Five (Nine Arches Press) in 2019\, was shortlisted in the Oxford Brookes International Poetry Competition 2020\, and was a prize winner in the International Ambit Poetry Competition in 2021. E Walker’s poetry is an exploration of queerness through our interactions with the non-human natural world\, specifically the world of invertebrates and\, more specifically in parts\, their intimate relationships. Inspired by queer ecologies\, entomology\, sex and spirituality\, the poems investigate Walker’s belief that non-human nature is inherently queer.

Or at least\, that’s how it first appears. But in the semi-flooded city\, humans are\, quite literally\, on top: peering down from shining towers and aerial walkways on the fathomfolk – sirens\, seawitches\, kelpies and kappas – who live in the polluted waters below. \nFor half-siren Mira\, promotion to captain of the border guard means an opportunity to help her downtrodden people. But if earning the trust and respect of her human colleagues wasn’t hard enough\, everything Mira has worked towards is put in jeopardy when Nami\, a know-it-all water dragon – fathomfolk royalty – is exiled to the city. When extremists sabotage the annual boat race\, violence erupts\, as does the clampdown on fathomfolk rights. Both Nami and Mira must decide if the cost of change is worth it\, or\, if Tiankawi should be left to drown. \nAbout Eliza Chan \nEliza Chan is a Scottish-born speculative fiction author who writes about East Asian mythology\, British folklore and reclaiming the dragon lady. DESCRIPTION:Have you got a little bookworm in your life? Then look no further than House of Books & Friends. We are over the moon to share a wee project we’ve been busy working on: Little Bookworms\, our brand new monthly book club for 8-12 years. \nWe will be kicking things off with our first title\, The Boy Who Fell From the Sky\, by Benjamin Dean\, on Sunday 3rd of March\, 11am-12pm! You have until the day of the book club to finish the title – this is available to buy in store as part of your ticket\, or we have ticket-only options available. Following this first meeting\, the book club will run the first Sunday of every month\, 11am-12pm. \nAs well as discussing the book\, there will be book-related activities each month for our Little Bookworm’s to get stuck into\, fun quizzes and games\, and squash and biscuits for all. Our Little Bookworms will also get their own book lovers passport to add to each month they attend as they jet set around the world through reading. \nSo whether you have a ravenous reader at home\, devouring books like the Hungry Caterpillar\, or you are trying to encourage reading and literary confidence in a more reluctant little one\, the Little Bookworms is an inclusive space for all and everyone. Amid calls for greater accountability and ethical awareness\, efforts are being made within and beyond the industry\, chiefly in the cultural and education sectors\, to decentralize fashion: to make the conception\, creation and consumption of fashionable dress and appearance less ‘western’-centric. \nSupporting this premise\, Hang-Ups argues that purposeful and permanent change within the fashion industry and fashion education is more likely if it is understood how the contemporary industry became ‘western’-centric. To institute effective change\, it is necessary to revert to first principles and understand how the fashion industry developed into what it is today. \nDuring a period when the concepts of fashion\, history and culture are being intensely scrutinized\, and with suggestions they are reaching their nadir\, the imperative to understand the extent to which they relate\, and facilitate the presentation of people’s fashionable bodies\, is urgent. Hang-Ups explores the origins and consequences of the fashion industry’s ‘western’-centrism by focusing on nine binaries\, defined in the crucible of empire\, that continue to be sites of negotiation as the ‘west’s’ traditions and ideals are contested by different cultural perspectives and changing global realities. \nAbout Dr Benjamin Linley Wild \nBenjamin Linley Wild is Senior Lecturer in Fashion Narratives at Manchester Fashion Institute\, Manchester Metropolitan University\, UK. She made a workshop of herself and her surroundings\, combining creativity and activism in inventive ways. Determined to die in her own home\, on her own terms\, she stopped eating and drinking in 2019. In Intervals\, Brooker reckons with heartbreak\, weaving her first and final memories with a study of doulas\, living wills and the precarious economics of social\, hospice and funeral care. \nAbout the author \nMarianne Brooker is based in Bristol\, where she works for a charity campaigning on climate and social justice. She has a PhD from Birkbeck and a background in arts research and teaching. She won the 2022 Fitzcarraldo Essay Prize for Intervals\, her first book.

We are excited to invite you to: Little Bookworms\, our new monthly book club for 8-12 years. \nFor April\, we will be reading The Floating Witch Mystery by Nicki Thornton. We will be meeting on April 7th of March\, 11am-12pm! She writes poetry\, short fiction\, essays and prose that sits between forms. Her writing explores the natural world\, mythology and the unconscious\, often taking the form of lyric narratives that both interrogate and celebrate lived experience. Her work has been published widely in journals and anthologies including The Stinging Fly\, The Letters Page\, Hotel and Tolka. She is the founding editor of UK creative nonfiction journal and reading series The Real Story\, and lectures in Journalism at the University of Salford. Her chapbook of poetry and photography\, Deeryard\, is forthcoming from Death of Workers Whilst Building Skyscrapers.

After being introduced to her son David and his wife Angie\, Suzi finds herself at the Bowies’ bohemian apartment and is soon embroiled in their raucous world. \nHaving crafted his iconic Ziggy Stardust hairstyle\, Suzi becomes the only working woman in David’s touring party and joins the Spiders from Mars as they perform around the globe. Amid the costume blunders\, parties and groupies she meets her husband-to-be\, Mick Ronson\, and together they traverse the absurdities of life in show business\, falling in with the likes of Iggy Pop\, Bob Dylan and Lou Reed along the way. \nDazzling and intimate\, Me and Mr Jones provides not only a unique perspective on one of the most beguiling stars of our time but also a world on the cusp of cultural transformation\, charting the highs and lows of life as one of the only women in the room as it happened. \nAbout the author \nSuzi Ronson is an author\, songwriter\, and former hairdresser and stylist. At fifteen\, she enrolled in the Evelyn Paget College of Hair and Beauty\, going on to become David Bowie’s stylist after helping create his iconic Ziggy Stardust hairstyle. She travelled the world with Bowie as his hairdresser\, stylist\, and confidante. Ronson has also worked with Lou Reed\, Iggy Pop\, and John Mellencamp. She divides her time between London and New York. \n \nAbout John Robb \nJohn Robb is a many-faceted creature. \nNot just a well known face from TV but also a best selling author\, musician\, journalist\,  presenter and pundit\, music website boss\, publisher\, festival boss\, Eco warrior and vegan behemoth and talking head singer from post-punk mainstays The Membranes. \n\nJohn Robb is all these things and more. \nHis recently released book ‘The Art Of Darkness – the History Of Goth’ is a worldwide pop culture best seller and his soon to be launched ground-breaking new scheme – the Green Britain Academy\, is set to train up people in thousands of Eco jobs whilst Borders Blurred is a gaming and music agency with a twist. \nHe grew up in Blackpool before punk rock came along and saved his life and he formed the Membranes – the highly influential post punk band whose current albums keep pushing forward with added choirs and textures and are critically acclaimed.
