We're looking for a Chatty cafe volunteer to help facilitate our "Chatter & Natter" table! 📣☕

It's a simple concept where members of the public are invited to sit at the table, simply to chat. As part of our mission to bring people together this is a great way that we can work with the community to offer a table in our cafe to bring people together and tackle loneliness at the same time.

If you enjoy speaking to new people and could spare 1-2 hours a week, why not volunteer to promote and host the table?

Please apply via the link in our bio!

We’ve opened the cover on something new… Introducing Weddings at House of Books & Friends — where you can write your own love story.❤️💍

Nestled in our gorgeous Grade II* listed building in the heart of Manchester, surrounded by shelves of stories, grand windows, and that warm hush of books waiting to be read… this is more than just a wedding venue. It’s a place where romance, history, literature & you come together.

Imagine your ceremony in our elegant Gladstone room (intimate, historic, steeped in charm), or hosting your guests among our book-lined walls, under soft light, with every detail curated to make your day uniquely yours. We’ve worked with Ambience Events Styling Altrincham to design three stunning ways to dress the room with stylists who love this space as much as we do — preserving its soul, embracing its character.

From bespoke touches like personalised seating names, food & drinks options, to styling, chair hire — we’ll walk with you through every page of planning so your wedding becomes the love story you’ve always dreamed of. Visit our website via the link in our bio to find out more!

Huge thanks to our wedding contributors @leahweddings @ambiencevenuestylingmanchester @jenniferdavydayphotography @gunnercookellp

One of our new additions, Jessica, gives us a rundown of her latest literary love: Saltblood, by Francesca de Tores.
'A gripping and visceral sea-faring, swashbuckling adventure. Based on partial court documents, this novel delves into the outrageous life of Mary Read, an infamous pirate but so much more besides.
This book reminded me of the thrill of reading Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevensen for the first time, but that these adventures were also possible for women.'
