Lessons in Death

£7.99

Life at Mayfield Academy seems normal enough – that is until Georgia discovers the drama teacher, dead, in the school library. Then, when she goes back to look for him, having gone for help, his body has vanished. Georgia knows what she saw, but only her best friend Billy believes her. Determined to find out what has gone on, Georgia and Billy hunt for evidence with new girl, Wren. But with friendship dynamics also at play there’s a lot more at stake than dead bodies. And it’s not long before it becomes clear that someone is prepared to go to any lengths to stop their investigation.

House of Books and Friends is excited to announce the return of Chris Moss for another ‘Lunchtime Lecture’, this time discussing Where Tourists Seldom Tread: Postcards from Bypassed Britain.

📆Friday 4th September
🕑 1pm

Travelling from Warrington, Birkenhead and Slough to East Kilbride, Armagh, Newport and beyond, Chris Moss seeks out Britain’s bypassed towns. As he encounters the rich stories and spirits of these places, peeling back layers of history and culture, he considers why most have ignored the hidden pleasures they have to offer, be they Stockport’s viaduct, one of the largest brick structures in the world; the scene-defining punk venues of Paisley; or Ipswich’s ancient origins (the town being twice the age of Machu Picchu).

Bookseller Lily has been reading her proof of The Intrigue by Silvia Moreno-Garcia!

"I love Silvia Moreno-Garcia, she's a phenomenal storyteller. A deeply character-driven story, The Intrigue is a noir-telenova type novel. Think small town with secrets, morally grey characters, ruthless femme fatales, and simmering tension that builds with every chapter. The atmosphere is rich, the writing is sharp, and every character feels like they're hiding something. If you enjoy classic noir with a fresh, modern edge this one is absolutely worth the read!" 📚
