Description

The story of one girl’s quest for clarity and forgiveness after an awful, universe-gone-mad-mistake. From the internationally bestselling author of Girl in Pieces

‘Breathtaking and heartbreaking, and I loved it with all my heart.’ Jennifer Niven

I thought I was done with death, at least a little bit, but death wasn’t done with me.

It’s always been Tiger and her mother against the world. Then, on a day like any other, Tiger’s mother dies. Now it’s Tiger, alone.

And she must learn to make friends with the dark.

‘A rare and powerful novel…dives deep into the heart of grief and healing with honesty, empathy, and grace.’ Karen M. McManus

‘Magnificent. A beautiful, heartbreaking alleluia to survival.’ Brendan Kiely

How about a non-fic read? Bookseller Ethan recommends 'We Were There' by Lanre Bakare

Bakare brings together a collection of often overlooked voices that feel deeply personal and rooted in place. Moving across different lives and perspectives, explore identity, community, and what it means to grow up in spaces that are often misunderstood. Reading this book, you feel like you’re listening closely to real stories, admiring resilience, and recognising elements of yourself in them, even when the experiences are not your own. It’s a celebration Black Britain beyond London.📚🤓🎶

House of Books & Friends is ecstatic to welcome Jess Bacon to the store on 15th June at 6pm to discuss their book, ‘I’m Just a Girl’: How Reclaiming Girlhood Can Redefine Womanhood. As well as a discussion on their book, there will also be a Q&A, plus the chance to get your books signed by Jess.

We are leaning into bringing your ‘girlhood**’ into your current self, so we encourage you to dress in a way that would make younger you proud, and we will be writing notes to our younger selves in the talk!

**’girlhood’ in this sense is gender neutral – what aspects of your youth do you wish to hold onto? What do you think you had to ‘leave behind’ as you entered adulthood?
