Children’s Event: A M Dassu in conversation with Liz Kessler – Kicked Out
We are delighted to be hosting the launch event for A M Dassu’s highly-anticipated sequel to Boy, Everywhere – Kicked Out, published by Old Barn Books.
A M Dassu will be in conversation with the award-winning author Liz Kessler as they discuss the themes explored in Kicked Out; displaced people, combatting stereotypes, empathy and the Manchester setting of the book. A M Dassu will read from Kicked Out and there will be lots of time for her to answer all your questions. The talk will be followed by a book signing.

1 ticket per child. Suitable for children age 11+ years old. Adults accompanying children are welcome to sit in on the event or browse in the shop, but children must not be left alone unsupervised – adults must remain in the building.
About A M Dassu
A M Dassu is the internationally acclaimed author of Boy, Everywhere and Fight Back, which have collectively been listed for forty-six awards, including the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, the Carnegie Medal, The Little Rebels Award for Radical Fiction and the inaugural Week Junior Award.
She is a director at Inclusive Minds, which is an organisation for people who are passionate about inclusion, diversity, equality and accessibility in children’s literature, and a patron of The Other Side of Hope, a literary magazine edited by immigrants and refugees, which serves to celebrate the refugee and immigrant communities worldwide.
A M Dassu grew up in the Midlands dreaming of becoming a writer but studied economics instead and worked in marketing and project management before realising her dream. She writes books that challenge stereotypes, humanise the ‘other’ and are full of empathy, hope and heart. Her previous book, Boot It! was a bestselling £1 World Book Day 2023 novel.
About Liz Kessler
Liz Kessler is the author of twenty-seven books for children and young adults. Her books range from Early Readers to books for Young Adults and include the internationally best-selling series about half-mermaid Emily Windsnap. She has an MA in Novel Writing from Manchester Metropolitan University and has been a full-time author for the last twenty years. Her last novel, When the World Was Ours, was inspired by her father’s childhood escape from the Nazis just before the second world war. It was shortlisted for over twenty-five awards, winning eleven of these, in England, Europe and the USA. Her new book, Code Name Kingfisher, features two sisters who join the Dutch Resistance in the early 1940s and came out in September this year.
