Our bookseller Leah tells us about the next book on her TBR, and her favourite book from the year so far...

'Small Boat moved the furniture in my brain. Based on a real event where the French Coast Guard lied to a sinking dinghy in the Channel, killing its occupants, this book covers so much in less than 150 pages - the migrant crisis, the desensitisation to suffering, and maintaining humanity in jobs that could emotionally crush you.'

'All About Love is an iconic text that I am well overdue a read of. To learn of love as a verb, not a noun, and how love can take many shapes throughout our lives, is a lesson I am happy to learn from one of the greatest feminists of our time.'

Let's get weird! House of Books & Friends welcomes Gemma Fairclough, Katherine Clements, and Jodie Robins to discuss their books published as part of 'The Northern Weird Project'.
They will join us on 5th November in conversation with Robert Welbourn, and will include a discussion, a Q&A, and a chance to get your books signed.

Tickets and information can be found on our website, or ask a bookseller in-store.

About The Northern Weird Project:
Throughout 2025, Wild Hunt Books will publish six fantastic pocket-sized novellas from authors based in the North of England and who are also engaging with the North as setting, subject and character.

We're looking for a Chatty cafe volunteer to help facilitate our "Chatter & Natter" table! 📣☕

It's a simple concept where members of the public are invited to sit at the table, simply to chat. As part of our mission to bring people together this is a great way that we can work with the community to offer a table in our cafe to bring people together and tackle loneliness at the same time.

If you enjoy speaking to new people and could spare 1-2 hours a week, why not volunteer to promote and host the table?

Please apply via the link in our bio!
