Here at House of Books & Friends, we do things a little differently. Firstly we might look like a business but we’re actually a Community Interest Company, and unlike most businesses we reinvest every penny we make.

We have a mission to combat loneliness and we do this through providing a safe space for individuals and not for profits to meet, to deliver workshops or host clubs for example. There aren’t many places like us, particularly in the City Centre. We have many businesses who hire our event space and host meetings of their own, they too are often looking for ways to give back to the local community.

One way we have enabled that is through our Pay It Forward mechanism whereby you, or your business can effectively ‘sponsor’ the room hire for a community group or charity to host their event. Meaning they get free hire of the space and you get a warm and fuzzy feeling (and to report back to your own clients) about doing something good for the community.

All ‘Pay It Forward’ vouchers bought both in store via our cafe and online are redistributed to individuals and those attending workshops who require one.
