Everyone should feel represented in the books they read. That's why the Read Manchester's See Myself in Books campaign is super important, they're making sure children and young people can access books with characters that they can relate to.🌠

In support, our booksellers have been picking out the books they can see themselves in! 📚

Lily: As soon as Wiggling Words came in store I had to tell everyone about it. It took me a very long time to be diagnosied with Dyslexia and maybe if I had access to this book when I was younger, I would have had to words to express how difficult reading and writing are for me. Becoming lost in a forest of letters like the main character is certainly something I can relate to!🌲

Jessica: Paddington Bear is a much beloved childhood book for many people, and I am no exception there, he is adorable! Paddngton started me thinking about travelling the world and having experiences within new cultures, eating new foods (bringing your very favourite along with you of course: marmalade anyone?) and making new friends. Kindness and friendship are beautifully depicted in this story, and are what we need more of!🐻

Athena: Sammy is someone everyone, especially myself, can relate to. As we all grow up, being self concious can feel like an isolating emotion, especially for children. Sammy is a thoughtful character, who I would have loved to have read about and feel inspired by as a child. Tom Percival provides comorting insight on how children can work through their shyness, encouraging them to speak up when uncomfortable and to embrace their individuality. 'Sammy Feels Shy' teaches that it's ok to not be comfy in big groups, but the more you get out of your comfort zone, things can get better!✨

Principal Bookseller Leah wants you all to pick up Shon Faye's paperback release, 'Love in Exile' this February!
'This book examines love as a capitalist commodity, designed to cure every ailment and solve every woe. Much like bell hooks, Faye considers love to be a verb, a choice, and maybe something many have been forced to experience in exile.'
